Common questions
How do we track who has paid towards the event?
Every cost is logged with who paid it, and every person can see their own position - paid so far, share of the total, and what is left to square. The organiser stops being the human spreadsheet.
Can two people pay for one thing - like a deposit paid half and half?
Yes. A single expense can have more than one payer, each with their amount, so a jointly-paid deposit is recorded exactly as it happened.
Some households want to contribute more. Can shares be uneven?
Yes - split by shares or exact amounts. A family of five and a couple can carry different weights on the same cost, and everyone can see the split that was used.
Does Split Things hold the money?
No, and that is deliberate. It tracks who paid and who owes; settling happens directly between people, with pay links that open Monzo, PayPal, Revolut, UPI or a banking app with the amount pre-filled. Your money never sits in our hands.
Do all the helpers need to install an app?
No. Share a link and anyone can join from a browser to log costs and see the balance. Installing the app is optional.
